Dignity as Resistance
learning to take care of ourself in the midst of danger
everything
all at once
in all the ways
from every direction
is a lot right now.
it’s an explicit strategy to overwhelm and overload our nervous systems so that we are spiraling and stressed and seeking relief in ways that produce passive, complacent, resigned, powerless people.
Reclaim one part of your agency today as a form of resistance.
One small act of kindness, goodness, faith, or love as a way to assert your dignity.
It could be as small as not reading that next outrageous bloviation from the bombastic buffoon. And using that time to bless someone who needs a blessing.
Breathe and smile.
Notice beauty in creation.
Savor some food you’ve prepared.
Listen to birds.
The opportunities are myriad to reclaim dignity and enjoy life.
I think about these things a lot lately as small acts of dignity for me.
Dignity for me and also for thee, amen.
